Bird Watching
Tambor Tropical, the ecotourism destination on the Nicoya Peninsula, is an ideal place for bird watching and wildlife photography. Bird feeders have been placed on the property in order to create an atmosphere of interaction between visitors and the great diversity of local species, without impacting their natural environment.
Experienced bird guides are available to help you explore the diverse habitats surrounding Tambor Tropical where over two hundred species of birds have been recorded. In addition, two of the most significant parks of the region, Curú Wildlife Reserve and Cabo Blanco National Park offer some of the best birding on the Nicoya Peninsula.
The bird photography, on this site, was done by professional guide and nature photographer, Nick Hawkins, photos taken on the hotel grounds. Nick is one of our hotel guides and also teaches photography workshops for our guests (check availability).
Tambor Tropical was recently visited by well-known nature photographer, Greg Basco, who quoted "I'm already itching to get back! The staff at the hotel are setting up some really interesting bird feeders, and I'm glad to have been able to give some input on their design and implementation."
